Website Onboarding
Wisar
UXUI design of the onboarding for a freelance job matching subscription service.
Wisar is an online subscription service designed to help freelancers find work opportunities.

Freelancers create a profile with information including details of the type of services they provide and the kind of work they prefer. Once submitted, Wisar's AI algorithm finds the most suitable job opportunities available on freelance sights such as Upwork, Freelancer, etc. The more information a user submits, the better the algorithm can find personalized matches.
Problem

For users to experience the benefits of Wisar's service, they must create an account, complete at least 80% of their profile, and provide detailed accurate information. When it comes to the internet, people are generally pretty lazy and very impatient. Therefore, it was clear to our team the Account Page was where we needed to focus our attention to increase user engagement and the number of paying subscribers.

The team consisted of myself (a UX/UI designer), a product manager, a data analyst, and Wisar's CEO. We also were in contact with Wisar's customer care agent and full-stack developer.
Data Analysis

Data analysis was conducted on current users' profiles. Details regarding the percentage of profile completion, questions answered, and types of responses were recorded and analyzed. Below are some of our principal findings.

-
On average, users only completed 47% of their profiles. (You must complete 80% of your profile to receive matches).
-
Most users fill out simple questions such as the city and country where they are located.
-
Almost no user filled out the question titled "Other Projects" as well as other lengthy open-ended questions such as Ideal Job and Main Projects.
User Testing
After reviewing the data analysis, we performed user tests on various individuals, including paying subscribers, non-subscribed users that only completed part of their profile, and new Wisar users who were viewing the site for the first time during our testing. We aimed to better understand the cause of skipped questions and the major difficulties they faced during profile completion.

Common thoughts
-
Is this an extension to the question about Ideal Jobs?

-
Ideal Job
-
Users didn’t understand the question
-
Their ideal job in terms of hours, length, job responsibilities, pay, etc.?
-
-
Couldn’t decide what to write

-
Professional Summary
-
Each user had a different idea of what this should be.
-
Cover letter
-
Detailed CV (every project they ever worked on)
-
Few quick sentences (off the top of their head) about their background
-
Copy/paste information from Upwork or another similar platform where they had already written a summary of their professional work.
-
Exclude Platforms
-
Most users checked each platform, thinking they were choosing the options they wanted included rather than excluded.
CV
-
Some users created their CVs in photoshop and therefore, “to get free text would be a hassle.”
-
Some users saved their CV as a word document for editing purposes only. They prefer uploading PDFs because you can’t edit them as easily.
-
PDF was the favored file type among participants (Wisar only allows the upload of Microsoft Word format/.docx files)

Results
Results were derived from data recorded in November of 2020, two months after the design was completed and about one month after parts of the design were implemented on the platform. Other factors such as changes in marketing techniques, may have impacted these results.

Overall, results show there was a significant rise in profile completion and the quality of the information submitted.
-
A higher percentage of users completed 80% of their profile or more.
-
The data showed a split distribution. In contrast to the data collected before implementation, few users completed only part of their profiles. Most users completed 0-10% of their profile or 80% or more.
-
There was a rise in the number of users who completed 100% of their profiles.
At this time, not all details of the design have been fully implemented. However, Wisar continues to make improvements.
